Donald Trump is not still in the White House for 100 days, because his survey values are already going down. Has Trump gambled?
A harbinger of bad news? Trump’s Vice President JD Vance thought nothing bad and wanted to attend a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra on Monday. Shortly after both had taken up their places on the balcony, the audience broke out – as can be seen in a video – into a loud boot.
In a way, Vance is already used to such hostility. Finally, he was verbally attacked on the slopes on private skiing. But his supervisor, US President Donald Trump, now has to struggle with some problems. The economy is not going well, the prices for food are still high. And precisely because of promise to these two areas, the Americans, as a Navigator study shows, finally chose him.
Current surveys show: The frustration with the unolked election promises is now also significantly reflected in Trump’s popularity values: The majority of Americans have been dissatisfied with Trump’s politics for a few days, the website “Realclear Polling” has determined, on which various survey values are collected at a total value.
The results are based on surveys by US citizens. The methodology and survey periods of the institutes vary. The platform records the approval values of the US population to Trump’s economic policy, its inflation management and its foreign policy, for example for migration.
Trump’s average approval values in the field of business have decreased significantly – and thus in the policy area in which Trump often specifies to have the greatest expertise as a businessman. According to the survey institutes surveyed, his approval values have dropped between 2 and 13 percentage points there.
Only a survey by CBS News shows an increase of two percentage points in this area. In an evaluation of CNN, Trump’s average rejection value is the highest (55 percent). In the United States, the term “Trumpkession”, a word creation from “Trump” and “recession” is currently circulating.
The development of its approval values when it comes to inflation is even more negative: they have decreased by an average of 6 to 20 percentage points in the past few weeks in all surveys raised.
The president’s values are also weak in foreign policy. According to real clean polling, Trump’s approval values in this area have dropped overall-even by 18 percentage points in a CNN evaluation. Only in a statistics by Economist/Yougov could he get one percentage point. There his rejection value is 46 percent.
Only CBS News recorded an increase in Trump’s popularity in the Middle East conflict. The situation is different when it comes to migration: here his values have improved from several institutes. While two surveys show a decline, Trump was able to gain between 6 and 12 percentage points in other surveys. Trump had repeatedly promised in the election campaign to strengthen the United States border protection and to contain illegal migration.
Trump’s popularity values also lowly cut off in a historical comparison to his predecessors: According to the Institut Gallup, hardly any other president with comparably weak popularity values began his term. All predecessors of Trump have started with popularity values since the end of the Second World War, which were more than 50 percent.
Only one US president has been similarly unpopular since then: it was Donald Trump himself in 2017. In his first term, the Americans continued to have been dissatisfied with the work of Trump.
