Aydın Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chambers Union (AYESOB) President Muhammet Ali Künkcü announced that they have increased the price of simit due to increasing input costs. The 90-gram simit, which has been sold for 10 TL for a long time, has become 12.5 TL with the increase. AYESOB President Muhammet Ali Künkcü emphasized that this increase is a necessary step for the sustainability of the tradesmen. In his statement, Künkcü stated that the bakers have been struggling with increasing costs for a long time and said, “There has been a significant increase in input costs recently. Our tradesmen have been in a difficult situation, especially due to the sudden increases in flour and sesame prices and the increase in energy costs. While bakers want to continue to offer the best quality product to their customers on the one hand, they have also started to experience serious concerns about the sustainability of their businesses on the other. We evaluated the demands of our tradesmen and as a result of the consultations, we decided that it would be appropriate to sell the 90-gram simit for 12.5 lira. “This increase was a necessary step for our tradesmen to survive,” he said.
