Tensions continue to rise in southern Lebanon. Israel accuses Hezbollah of secretly rearming and repeatedly carrying out air strikes. How long will the fragile ceasefire last?

According to Lebanese sources, several people were killed and others injured in renewed Israeli air strikes in Lebanon. Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that two brothers were killed on a country road at the western foot of Mount Hermon in the southeast of the country when their car was hit by a bullet and burst into flames. According to NNA, seven people were previously injured in an aerial attack on a vehicle in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jubail. In a third attack in the same region, one man was killed and four other people were injured, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

The Israeli army confirmed that it had carried out an airstrike. Two members of a militia allied with the Shiite Hezbollah were killed. The military statement said the two men were involved in arms smuggling for Hezbollah. According to Israel, they violated the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. The army initially did not comment on the other attacks.

Tensions between Israel and the Shiite Hezbollah militia have recently increased significantly again. The Israeli army is increasingly attacking buildings and vehicles that it associates with the Iranian-backed militia. Both sides agreed to a ceasefire a year ago after a months-long war. Israel, with US support, is pushing for Hezbollah to disarm. However, the Israelis accuse the organization of secretly rearming and attacking targets in Lebanon almost daily.
