There is no relaxation in sight in the conflict between the nuclear powers. India reports artillery fire, Pakistan the shooting of Indian drones.

After the Indian military air strikes on several Pakistani goals, the situation between the two nuclear powers remains tense. On the night of Thursday, according to reports of Indian media, the Himalayan region of Kashmir again occurred between soldiers of both countries and artillery shot. Pakistan said that 25 Indian drones had shot down since the night.

The shooting changes took place again in the Kashmir border area. The region is divided between Pakistan and India, but both claim the whole area for themselves.

In addition to shots from small weapons, grenades were fired from Pakistani side along the military control line, as the news agency PTI and other Indian media reported, citing the military and the Ministry of Defense. India’s military therefore spoke of “unprovoked” shots.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi held talks in New Delhi in the middle of the military tensions: he met his Indian colleague Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, as Iranian state media reported. The visit was planned longer, said Araghtschi on his arrival. Therefore, there are also economic issues on the agenda. “Our region needs rest,” he added. That is why Iran wants to convey.

The night before, at least 13 people died in Pakistani artillery shot, including an Indian soldier. Before that, the military spoke of twelve civilians, including women and children. Several buildings in locations near the border were therefore destroyed.

According to India, the Pakistani artillery fire started on Wednesday night – after attacks by their own forces on goals in Pakistan and the Pakistanically controlled part of Kashmir. In the targeted Indian attacks, nine facilities of “terrorist groups” were destroyed, it said. Pakistan, which spoke of rocket attacks, threatened India with retaliation.

According to the military, Indian attacks died on the Pakistani side, 57 others were injured. In addition, by shooting the Indian drones last night by the falling debris, one person killed and five more injured, including four soldiers.

India’s attacks are considered to be a response to a terrorist attack on April 22nd in the Indian Union territory Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people – mostly Indian tourists – were killed. Neu-Delhi accuses Pakistan of a participation, which rejects Islamabad.

The drones that were shot down in Pakistan were unarmed drones, as the German press agency learned from secret service circles. Such unmanned missiles can serve, for example.

According to the civil aviation authority in Pakistan, several airports were temporarily closed on Thursday. Accordingly, the operation at the airports in the millions of Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and in the northeastern city of Salkot near the Indian border was discontinued by local time. Pakistan had temporarily closed his airspace on Wednesday night and temporarily stopped operating at the airports Islamabad and Lahore.

The origins of the conflict go back to the colonial period. In 1947 the British released the Indian subcontinent into independence and divided it. In addition to the predominantly Hindu India, the new state of Pakistan for Muslims emerged from the division. The violent division continues to feed a bitter rivalry to this day. Since their independence, both countries have waged three wars against each other, two of them around cashmere.
