Evaluating the unemployment figures announced today, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that unemployment continued to be at a single-digit level, thanks to the economic program and employment-oriented policies they implemented.
Pointing out that employment among young people and women has increased, Yılmaz said that they will continue to take steps regarding the employment of women and young people.
Cevdet Yılmaz’s evaluations are as follows;
“Thanks to the economic program we have implemented and our employment-oriented policies, the unemployment rate continues to remain at its single-digit level. According to seasonally adjusted data in May 2026, the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent; thus, the single-digit trend in the unemployment rate continued for the 37th month.
The youth unemployment rate is 0.7 points compared to the same month last year; For women, it decreased by 1.5 points to 14.8 percent and 10.5 percent, respectively. Weak demand conditions in the global economy, geopolitical tensions and uncertainties in trade policies continue to pose risks to the outlook for production, investment and employment.
In this challenging conjuncture, we continue to take actions to increase the resilience of the labor market with our policies that strengthen macroeconomic balances, our supports that protect the production capacity of the real sector and our export-oriented growth approach. In the coming period, we will determinedly continue our policies that will employ potential workforce, especially young people, women and those who have difficulty in participating in the workforce, and increase the general level of employment. “With the policies we carry out on the axis of investment, production, employment and export, we aim to support balanced and sustainable growth, permanently reduce unemployment and increase the welfare of our citizens.”
