According to Japan’s NHK channel, scientists from the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) analyzed approximately 20 milligrams of samples brought to earth from the Ryugu asteroid.
As a result of the examinations, it was determined that all 5 main nucleobases, which store the genetic information of DNA and RNA, which form the basis of life, were found in these samples.
Toshiki Koga, one of JAMSTEC experts, stated that the finding in question further strengthens the possibility that nucleobases may already have existed during the formation of the Solar System.
The findings of the research were published in the journal “Nature”.
