Hit against pro-Russian hacker group in Germany

The Hacker Group Noname057 (16) is held responsible for numerous hacker attacks. Now the authorities succeeded in a crucial blow.

In an internationally coordinated campaign, the law enforcement agencies, including Germany, have acted against the pro-Russian group Noname057 (16), which should be responsible for numerous cyber attacks. A network consisting of several hundred hundreds of distribution worldwide was switched off, as the Federal Criminal Police Office announced in Wiesbaden on Wednesday. In Germany, six arrest warrants were obtained, and the suspects are searched for internationally.

The cyber criminals are said to have started numerous so-called DDOS attacks. A large number of data packages are sent via the Internet to disturb other data processing systems. Germany has been a total of 14 waves of attack since the beginning of the investigation in November 2023, the BKA said.

These had affected a total of around 250 companies and institutions, including armaments, electricity suppliers, transport companies, public institutions and authorities. There were also similar attacks against infrastructures of other countries, for example in the European elections or most recently on the occasion of the NATO summit in the Netherlands.

According to the BKA, the attacks on German institutions primarily aimed to generate media attention with the aim of exerting political or social influence in Germany.

In the past, the hacker group repeatedly commented on the German foreign policy of the Merz government. In the middle of last week, in a telegram contribution, they criticized the chancellor’s request that Russia should pay for damage in the course of the Ukraine secretary of 500 billion euros. As the specialist magazine “Golem” reports, the federal government’s hacker group repeatedly accused of behaving “Russophob”.

According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, around 4,000 supporters have been recruited since the Federal Criminal Police Office on the Federal Criminal Police Office. These were offered to download a special software, which they could then take into account in DDOS attacks using their own resources. In addition, the group built its own bot network from several hundred servers.

The six people, against whom arrest warrants were obtained, are according to the information about Russian nationals or people who live in Russia. Two of them should be the main responsible. In addition, another arrest warrant was issued by the Spanish authorities.

According to investigators, a total of 24 objects of alleged supporters of the group were searched on Tuesday, including one in Berlin and two in Bavaria. In addition, more than a thousand alleged supporters of the group have been informed about Telegram that actions of this kind are punishable under German law.
