Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, one of the companies at the center of the artificial intelligence race, made one of the harshest statements in the technology world against the recently rising fears of “artificial intelligence out of control”. Speaking to CBS News, Huang dismissed predictions by some researchers that super-advanced artificial intelligence could pose a lethal threat to humanity in the next few years. Huang said, “2030 will not be the end of the world. The probability of this being the end of the world is 0 percent,” completely closing the door to disaster scenarios, especially for the near future. Nvidia CEO argued that such predictions are not based on scientific data, and that discourses that create fear in the public drag the technology debate to a wrong point.

However, Huang’s statement made the difference of opinion in the artificial intelligence industry even more visible. While some technology executives, especially Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, want stronger security measures and independent testing mechanisms in case advanced models go out of control, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other industry executives argue that artificial intelligence risks should not be underestimated. On the contrary, Huang opposes slowing down the pace of artificial intelligence development. Stating that the USA should move as fast as possible, especially in the ongoing technology competition with China, Nvidia CEO also underlines that speed should not mean “launching unsafe products”. According to Huang, the real solution is to enforce existing laws and hold companies accountable for the systems they develop, rather than introducing new and burdensome regulations.
