Real leaders offer solutions for tragedies. Donald Trump, however, uses Washington’s flight disaster for a scapegoat campaign against minorities. His baseless suspicions are ruthless and dangerous.

Bastian Brauns reports from Washington

A terrible catastrophe occurred on January 29 over the Potomac River in Washington. A military helicopter is collided with a passenger plane from American Airline in the middle of the air near Ronald Reagan National Airport. 64 passengers and crew members on board the aircraft and three military members in the helicopter were killed.

This tragedy, one of the worst aviation disasters in recent US history, should have been a moment of national grief and unity. Instead, she was immediately politicized by the new US President Donald Trump and his government in order to blame minorities for the death of these many people without evidence and without evidence.

At the center of Trump’s conjectures are the so-called “diversity, equity and inclusion programs (for short)”. The measures to promote more equality are to be hated with the Republicans and are now to serve as an explanation for possible human failure. The Democrats of course are to blame because they have promoted such programs. What an infame and inhuman strategy.

At a press conference on the day after the crash, Trump initially struck a serious and presidential tone and recognized the scope of the tragedy: “Our hearts are broken … We are all looking for answers,” said and asked for a minute’s silence.

But only a few minutes later he waved up and used the catastrophe to drive his agenda against DEI initiatives. Without an approximately concluded examination or an understanding of the actual cause, Trump fell from “brilliant people” that you need as air traffic controllers.

Such “geniuses” and therefore excellently suitable people would no longer exist in the Air License Authority FAA. This is to blame for a diversity craze of the Democrats. Trump continued to swow and gave the impression that, as a air traffic controller, only people were set out with hearing and visual disturbances, lack of limbs, paralysis, epilepsy or even severe mental or psychological disabilities.

What not only sounds nonsensical is simply wrong. But Trump was about a clear message of the exclusion to his followers. Trump and his government, including his Vice President JD Vance and his Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, spread the brazen lies that the DEI setting criteria had led to unqualified persons in security-critical positions.

The fact is: All air traffic controllers are still subject to extremely strict training and require the highest psychological and physical qualifications.

According to the official settings of the FAA, all air traffic controllers – regardless of skin color, gender or disability – have to exist strict medical, cognitive and professional tests. The so -called “Aviation Development Program” (ADP) of the FAA, an initiative to promote a more inclusive workforce, is by no means reducing the security standards.

Applicants must continue to exist the so -called “Air Traffic Skills Assessment (ATSA)” as well as extensive security checks and medical examinations.

As part of the inclusion program, no people with disabilities are indiscriminately transferred to positions for which they are not suitable. Rather, it is ensured that qualified people have a fair chance of a career in aviation, since cognitive and non -physical skills are the decisive factor for working as a air traffic controller.

Trump’s targeted disinformation campaign is not only misleading and hurtful, but also dangerous. It not only sparks racist and discriminatory prejudices by suggesting that minorities and people with disabilities are less competent per se. According to Trump, they are also blamed for the death of 67 people. The president didn’t care. In his statements he even went so far to say that a group within the FAA had decided that the workforce was too white, and then urged the government to change this immediately. “
