Damg Zhao, an Optical Engineer of Danish Technical University, and his team, announced that this study is not “not just a micro tattoo project”, but also developed a new technology that can be applied to other living things such as bacteria.

According to Science Alert; With this technique, scientists can draw 70 nanometers on the body surfaces of living organisms. To compare, a human hair is about 80,000 nanometers wide. Tardigradlar can reach up to approximately 500,000 nanometers.

Why were Tardgradlar chosen?

Tardigrads are known as living creatures in extreme conditions such as extreme temperature, radiation and space cavity. This is because they can dry themselves under bad environmental conditions and move to a survival mode called “Tun .. In this mode, their metabolism is almost completely stopped.

Researchers first put the tardigrads into this special situation. Then, in a vacuum room that was cooled to -143 degrees, a tattoo process was applied with a technique called “ice lithography”.

How was the tattoo?

A liquid substance called Anisole was sprayed on the cooled tardigrads. Then, an electron beam was sent to a chemical reaction with this item and the pattern was processed into the skin of the tardigrad. During this process, tardigrads were carefully protected to avoid damage.

What were the results?

After the procedure, 40 percent of the re -revived Tardigrads lived and continued to move normally. Moreover, these micro tattoos were not broken despite washing, drying and stretching.

So why is this important?

This experiment is seen as a major step to produce nanosensörler, biomimetic devices and even live microorobots in the future. For now, only Tardigradlar is resistant to overcome this process, but it is aimed to try other living things as the technique is developed.

“This is a step taken to the future of nanotechnology that works with living systems, not only a tattoo, but a step of nanotechnology from the Danish Technical University.
