Low-cost kamikaze drones, which are increasingly common on battlefields, pose a serious threat to military bases, warships and critical facilities. Turkey is increasing its close defense force against this threat. Developed by the Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE), TOLGA’s 20-millimeter dual-armed revolver system is designed to neutralize targets approaching from air and sea.
INTERVENTION FROM THOUSAND METERS
The system, which combines two weapons in a single turret, has an effective range of 1000 meters with the particle anti-drone ammunition developed by MKE. TOLGA, which can also use ammunition in accordance with NATO standards, can operate against different threats thanks to its adjustable firing rate. The system is aimed to provide close protection especially against kamikaze UAVs and explosive-laden unmanned marine vehicles.
AGAINST THREAT FROM SEA AND AIR
One of the striking features of the system is its ability to intervene on targets approaching from different angles. The weapons’ angle of elevation between minus 30 and plus 70 degrees allows them to be used against low-flying drones as well as threats on the sea surface. The capacity of 3,200 shots per minute is especially important in terms of directing intense fire at the target in a short time. Particle ammunition aims to provide an advantage in neutralizing small and moving targets. The increase in unmanned vehicle attacks on warships and strategic facilities in recent years further increases the importance of such close defense systems. The development of TOLGA forms part of Türkiye’s efforts to produce domestic solutions against different types of threats in air defense.
HE SHOWED HIS FIRE POWER IN POLATLI
TOLGA’s firepower was exhibited at the Fire Free 2026 event in Polatlı. The target drone was neutralized in a short time. According to MKE’s statement, the pulse rate of the new system is three times that of its equivalents in the world. TOLGA reveals that Türkiye has increased its capacity not only in developing unmanned vehicles but also in defense technologies against these vehicles.
