Trump more unpopular than ever – two weeks before the midterms
Shortly before the midterm elections, Donald Trump has achieved his worst approval rating of all time: According to a recent survey by the New York Times and Siena University, only 36 percent of likely voters approve of his administration – 59 percent are against it. The main drivers of discontent are the weakening economy, the war against Iran and gasoline prices above four dollars per gallon.
The consequences extend to Trump’s own voter base: among white voters without a college degree – one of his core groups – he is only just in positive territory (48 to 46 percent). Democrats have also regained support among men, young and Hispanic voters – the very groups that made Trump’s 2024 victory possible. On Sunday’s question, the Democrats lead by eleven points.
Nevertheless, the outcome of the election remains uncertain. Finally, the survey also shows: Only 28 percent of voters are satisfied with the Democratic Party itself – and 43 percent of their own party members express dissatisfaction.
