After the sharp sales in Borsa Istanbul yesterday, all eyes were on the Financial Stability Committee meeting to be held today. In the statement made after the meeting of the committee that met this morning, it was stated that there was no structural risk in the capital markets.
The statement made is as follows:
“The Financial Stability Committee convened on September 17, 2026, under the chairmanship of our Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mr. Mehmet Şimşek.
At the meeting, the latest developments in capital markets were discussed. In this context, it was evaluated that the activity in the markets resulted from the credit and liquidity problems experienced in some funds held by a limited number of portfolio management companies.
There is no fundamental or structural risk to the functioning of Borsa Istanbul and our capital markets. The problem is concentrated in a specific part of the fund market and is temporary and manageable.
In this context, the Committee; It evaluated the measures that can be taken to maintain the healthy functioning of the markets and preserve macrofinancial stability. In this context, all necessary measures will be quickly implemented by our relevant institutions.
The decided measures will primarily be aimed at eliminating the liquidity crunch and preventing the risk of contagion. On the other hand, our regulatory and supervisory institutions will continue to use their powers resolutely against those who are determined to engage in market-distorting actions.
During this process, we ask our citizens to only consider statements made from official sources.

CBRT: LIQUIDITY CONDITIONS ARE BEING FOLLOWED
CBRT announced that the amount of funds to be provided in the repo auction will be increased according to liquidity conditions.
The statement made by the CBRT is as follows:
“Taking into consideration the developments in the financial markets, the liquidity facilities of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) have been reviewed.
In this context;
The amount of funding to be provided through weekly repo auctions will be increased taking into account liquidity conditions.
Borrowing limits of banks in the Interbank Money Market, which operates within the CBRT, will be updated by taking into account the current balance sheet sizes of the banking system.
Collateral discount rates valid in the markets within the CBRT will be reviewed and reduced.
Liquidity conditions will be closely monitored and any additional measures will be taken if necessary.

On the other hand, according to the news in Bloomberg, the CBRT increased the borrowing limits of banks in the interbank money market by 10 times to 510 billion TL.
Support from the CBRT continues to come to the market. CBRT opened a weekly repo auction of 300 billion TL. The previous amount was 1 billion TL.
CAPITAL MARKETS BOARD: MEASURES TAKEN WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY
The Capital Markets Board (CMB) announced that measures have been taken regarding the developments and that the measures taken will be announced in a short time.
The statement made by CMB is as follows:
“The recent developments in our capital market are being followed by our Board. In this context, a series of measures have been taken by our Board. These measures will be announced to the public on our Board’s website in a short time.”
