Evaluating the Special Consumption Tax decision taken by the Ministry, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that they reset the Special Consumption Tax on diesel in August in order to limit the reflection of the rapidly rising diesel price due to geopolitical developments to consumers and producers, and gradually implemented it in the remaining months of the year.

Minister Şimşek’s evaluation is as follows;

“We use the fiscal space we provide in the budget through spending discipline and the fight against informality to support the disinflation process.

In order to limit the reflection of the high increase in diesel prices on consumers and producers due to geopolitical developments, we are resetting the Special Consumption Tax on diesel for the rest of August and gradually implementing it until the end of the year.

Thus, we aim to alleviate cost pressures as well as reduce the effects on inflation expectations and pricing behavior. “We will determinedly continue our policies to ensure price stability, which is a prerequisite for permanent welfare increase and more equitable income distribution.”
