Speaking at the 69th General Assembly of the Banks Association of Türkiye, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) Fatih Karahan said that the effect of the increase in energy prices on inflation was felt.

Karahan said that they limited the effect of energy on inflation with the Ecel mobile system.

Karahan stated that they continue their tight monetary policy stance with determination.

The highlights of Karahan’s statements are as follows:

“There was a significant increase in the main trend of inflation in April. We limited the impact on inflation to some extent with Eşelmobil. We expect the stabilization in domestic demand to support disinflation in the coming period. In recent years, inflation has increased and the ratio of banking sector revenues to national income has started to decline. In this period when geopolitical risks increase, we need to adhere to price stability and move decisively in this direction. We use macroprudential measures as support for tight monetary policy.

We revise and implement regulations that increase the TL deposit share according to the conditions. There was an increase in inflation in April due to the rapid increase in energy prices. Credit growth, which has accelerated significantly since the second half of 2025, appears to have slowed down with the measures taken. We continue to use all policy tools with determination to preserve price stability and financial stability. “The shocks experienced in recent years have shown that macroprudential tools have a complementary role in ensuring price stability.”
