The first grape harvest of the year in Silifke was held in Atakent District. As the cutting of the grapes grown under cover started, producer Mustafa Sak wished that the season would be fruitful. Making a statement during the harvest, Sak said, “We have completed the first grape harvest in Silifke. I wish it to be auspicious, auspicious and fruitful.”

Stating that he produces in his 6-decare greenhouse, Sak stated that they expect a yield of approximately 17 tons and said, “I am growing greenhouse grapes. This year, we expect 17 tons of product from 6 decares. The first harvest in Türkiye is made here. Our products are sent to the Middle East and European countries as well as the domestic market. We are satisfied with the prices.”

Agricultural Engineer Deniz Gürbüz stated that Mersin is an important center in early-season grape production and said, “When it comes to early-season grapes, Silifke, Erdemli and Mezitli districts stand out. Previously, production in small areas has reached approximately 2,500 decares throughout Mersin. Annual production is around 8-10 thousand tons. The products are exported to Arab countries, especially Russia, and partly to Europe.”

Gürbüz noted that grapes, which cost 300-350 TL from the producers in the domestic market, reach the consumer between 500-600 TL, while the price per kilogram in exports went up to 600 TL.
On the other hand, it was reported that grape production in Silifke is concentrated especially in Uzuncaburç District and Keben, Sabak, Karakaya, Kargıcak, Evkafçiftliği, Gündüzler and Kepez districts in Göksu Valley.
