Evaluating the tourism revenues and visitor figures announced today, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that the tourism sector maintains its resilience.

Minister Şimşek said that they quickly took the necessary steps to limit the effects of geopolitical developments on the tourism sector and announced that they made guarantee and loan decisions for the sector.

Minister Şimşek’s evaluation is as follows;

“The tourism sector maintains its resilient outlook. Tourism revenues increased by 1.3 percent annually in March. Thus, annualized tourism revenue reached 65.6 billion dollars and the number of visitors reached 64.1 million people in the first quarter.

In this period when difficulties in global trade increase, the importance of service trade becomes more prominent. We quickly took the necessary steps to limit the effects of geopolitical developments on the tourism sector. We provided additional guarantee and credit opportunities to the sector with the Tourism Support Package.

“We will continue to support foreign exchange-earning sectors to make the gains in the current account balance permanent.”
