A post by the Pakistani Prime Minister on Platform X is causing a stir. Now users are speculating who actually wrote the request for a ceasefire in the Iran war.

Attentive observers noticed an explosive detail in a message from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Platform X to US President Donald Trump. The earlier version of the text visible in the post’s edit history began with the caption “Draft – Message from Pakistan Prime Minister on X.” This sentence has been removed in the newer version.

The deleted sentence fueled speculation that the appeal could have been formulated not by Sharif himself, but by the USA or Israel. The US newspaper “Forbes” had previously reported on it.

On Tuesday evening (US ET), Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran, after previously threatening to wipe out “an entire civilization” if Iran did not accept the terms of opening the Strait of Hormuz. That threat prompted Sharif on X to ask Trump to extend Tuesday’s deadline “to give diplomacy a chance.” He also called on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a “gesture of goodwill.”

As the edit history shows, the phrase “Draft – Pakistan Prime Minister’s message on X” was quickly removed. Among others, Ryan Grim, one of the founders of the investigative news portal “Drop Site”, then speculated that the message was probably not written by Sharif himself. His argument: Sharif’s own employees would not refer to him as “Pakistan’s Prime Minister.” Grim instead suspects that the contribution could have come from the USA or Israel.

Other users also questioned why the original post indicated it was a draft and why Pakistan’s prime minister was mentioned in English. They also see this as an indication that the message was not written by Pakistani officials. Sharif’s office has not yet responded to comment.
