The Trump administration has sued the elite Harvard University. The reason: The university did not adequately protect its Jewish students, according to the lawsuit. The Trump administration argues that Harvard management deliberately ignored hostility on the university campus and refused to enforce anti-discrimination rules. The lawsuit seeks to recover millions of dollars in taxpayer money from the university in the form of federal funding that Harvard allegedly received during a time when the university failed to comply with the law.

Harvard has not yet responded to the lawsuit. The university previously said it had made significant efforts to combat anti-Semitism on its campus, including tightening rules and disciplinary action against those who violate them.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth apparently lied in a press conference. On Wednesday, the Republican met with the families of the six soldiers who died in the US-Israeli Middle East war. He said in a press conference on Thursday: “What I heard in tears, in hugs, in strength and in unwavering determination, was the same from family to family. They said: ‘Finish it. Honor their sacrifice. Don’t waver. Don’t stop until the job is done’.”

But the father of one of the soldiers now explains to NBC News that this is not true. “I can’t speak for the other families. When he spoke to me, it wasn’t an issue,” he told the station. He told the Defense Minister that he sincerely hoped that the decisions made were necessary in the context of the war. He did not speak to Hegseth or US President Donald Trump about the need to continue the war.

Another person has died in a US immigration detention center (ICE). A 19-year-old Mexican allegedly committed suicide in the camp in Florida, the authorities said. The Mexican government spoke on Thursday (local time) of an “unacceptable” death and called for a “thorough investigation”.
