On board the presidential plane Air Force One, Donald Trump defends the peace plan pushed forward by the USA. He is convinced that an agreement with Moscow and Kyiv is getting closer.
US President Donald Trump remains confident in the struggle for a peace solution to the Ukraine war. During a flight to Florida, the Republican defended the US’s original 28-point peace plan, which he claims to have understood only as a “concept” – and rejected the accusation that Ukraine was being pressured into unacceptable territorial concessions.
“Ultimately, this is territory that could be conquered by Russia in the next few months anyway,” Trump said. He spoke of a development that was only moving in one direction – and by that he meant: in favor of Russia. At the same time, he assured that Moscow would also make concessions in return, namely “stop fighting and not conquer any more land.”
After a US draft agreement became known, which was criticized by many as a “Russian wish list”, there were renegotiations and adjustments in the past few days. The Europeans, who had been surprised by the US government’s move, also took part this time. According to information from Washington and Kiev, Ukraine has now agreed to the most important points of the new draft.
Trump announced two simultaneous meetings between US representatives with Russia and Ukraine on the Truth Social platform on Tuesday afternoon (local time) to clarify the last outstanding points. Trump wrote that he ordered the two meetings in the hope that the whole thing would be finalized.
According to Trump, his special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. At the same time, the State Secretary in the US Department of Defense, Daniel Driscoll, who is acting as negotiator, is to hold talks with the Ukrainian side. The meeting in Moscow will probably take place next week, Trump said on board the presidential plane Air Force One. His son-in-law Jared Kushner may also be there.
Trump also commented on a deadline he had originally set for Ukraine, which he had ordered to essentially accept the US plan by Thursday – the day of the American Thanksgiving holiday. After recently appearing to be more conciliatory, Trump now said he had “no deadline.” For him, the deadline expires “when it’s over.” And at the moment everyone is “tired of fighting.”
