Dicle Elektrik, which provides electricity distribution services within the framework of regulations of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and Energy Market Regulatory Authority in 6 provinces in Southeastern Anatolia, continues its struggle against informal energy consumption.
In this context, the company detected 4,238 unregistered transformers, most of which are used for illegal electricity consumption thanks to drone and artificial intelligence -supported works in 2024. He announced that the total installed power of these transformers is approximately 334,962 kva.
Illegal transformers are enough for a city
According to the calculations, the installed power of the external transformers in question can meet the electricity needs of an average of 67 thousand duties and 270 thousand people. The detected transformers have an installed power to give separate energy with 150 thousand, such as Karaman, Kırşehir, Erzincan and Sinop, according to TURKSTAT -based population data. In other words, the amount of illegal electricity used only in agricultural irrigation areas by informal transformers is more than the annual consumption of electricity of each of these cities.
The number of confiscated transformers is only 253
The coordinates, serial numbers and visuals of the 4.238 illegal transformer identified were transmitted to the prosecutor’s office in the provinces where they are located and the legal process was initiated. However, only 253 of them were confiscated due to reasons such as judicial procedures and some illegal transformer owners to change the place of the transformer by receiving the news of the arrival of teams. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the use of illegal transformers in different regions continued.

In the investigations; The majority of the detection of illegal transformer took place in Şanlıurfa. Şanlıurfa was followed by Mardin, Diyarbakir, Sirnak and Batman. Siirt was recorded as the province where the use of illegal electricity is the least.
