Google’s first innovation is based on an algorithm that emphasizes more sustainable alternatives by analyzing the time differences between walking, public transport and vehicle use. This system, which is currently active in more than 60 European cities, encourages the user to public transport or walk, especially at short distances where automobile use is unnecessary.

This feature prevented the departure of tens of millions of vehicles in 2024. The system, where new cities such as Copenhagen, Stockholm and Warsaw are added, are considered to have great potential in Megapols such as Istanbul, which has a strong public transport infrastructure.

Google Maps integrated 125 thousand kilometers of bicycle path with verified local information. Advanced bicycle modes showing slope, lane presence and traffic density can now be used in cities such as Rome, Madrid, Vienna, Barcelona and Brussels.
