Minimum wage in 2025, all eyes are on Tuesday, December 10th. There are only three days left for the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Commission, which will include 15 people representing workers, employers and the government. The table, which will meet four times in December, will determine the minimum wage, which will come into force in January 2025 and will be recorded in the accounts in February 2025.

Although the name of the figure to be determined by the Minimum Wage Commission is the minimum wage and the authorities have drawn attention to this issue many times, the table reveals that this is not the case. For this, it is enough to look at the official data of the state.

According to the Social Security Institution (SGK); 6.6 million people work for minimum wage in Turkey. This corresponds to 40 percent of the employees. That means 4 out of 10 people work for minimum wage.

The message of the ruling wing has taken shape… “We will not let the minimum wage earner be crushed by inflation.” This statement was made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that a balance will be sought in the minimum wage increase.

The critical question reveals itself here: Where does the balance pass so that the minimum wage won’t be crushed by inflation?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey’s 2024 year-end inflation target was announced as 44 percent. The 2025 year-end inflation target was announced as 21 percent.

However, with the above-expected inflation data of 2.44 percent in November, annual inflation decreased to 47.09 percent. With the December inflation data, there is no longer any possibility of inflation falling to 44 percent annually.
