OpenAI announced to its paid users that if the tax identification number is not entered, 20 percent VAT will be deducted from invoices starting from December 1, 2024.

In the statement, users were requested to add their tax identification numbers to OpenAI.

OpenAI cited Turkey’s Value Added Tax Law No. 30656 as the reason for the 20 percent VAT deduction.

“If you pay VAT in Turkey and have a valid tax ID number, please add it to the Tax Status and ID section of your OpenAI account. If you do not provide a valid Tax ID by December 1, we will need to collect 20 percent VAT from your invoice,” the statement said.

ChatGPT users reacted on social media to the fact that 20 percent VAT will be deducted from the artificial intelligence service.
